One-to-one personalised computer training
All computer training will be taught at an appropriate level of your ability, ranging from complete beginner to the more advanced. Our tutor ( a qualified Microsoft Office Master Instructor) has several years experience teaching in Adult Education Centres from beginner levels (i.e. Introduction to Computers, New CLAIT) up to advanced levels (i.e. Advanced ECDL, CLAIT Advanced).
We have learned from experience that a relaxed and friendly atmosphere is vital to successful learning. Therefore the structure of our lessons is based on that, providing an enjoyable learning experience.
Below are some suggestions of what could be covered in lessons:
Microsoft Office Applications
- Word Processing - inserting/editing text, text & paragraph formatting, moving/copying/deleting text, creating bulleted/numbered lists, inserting hyperlinks to documents/web pages and email addresses, work with columns, saving & printing documents, mail merge, indexing, creating a contents page, using tables, using calculations in tables, using/editing form fields, collaborating, using macros.
- Excel (Spreadsheets) - entering numbers/text, navigating to specific cells/cell ranges, formatting cells, using AutoFilter, inserting and modifying formulae, creating charts, add/edit/delete comments, managing workbooks, customising layout, printing worksheets/workbooks, using advanced functions, creating scenarios, naming cells/cell ranges, conditional formatting, protection, sharing workbooks, importing data.
- Access (Databases) - create a database, creating and modifying a table in design view, modifying field properties, creating a lookup field, creating a primary key field, setting data type and size of field, creating relationships, creating & modifying queries, creating forms, creating reports, enter/modify/delete data, importing data, sorting data, printing data.
- PowerPoint (Presentations) - create presentations from templates, design presentations, add/move/edit/delete slides, insert/format text/images/objects, creating tables, inserting images & soundfiles, apply motion paths, merge presentations, apply animation, use slide transitions, customise slide templates, adding/viewing notes, working with action buttons, hiding slides, delivering a presentation, printing a presentation in different layouts.
- Publisher - inserting text/images, using build-in templates, creating a publication from scratch, text formatting, create posters/flyers/greeting cards, create a book, change print settings, pack and go, create a web page, insert/delete pages, align or distribute objects, use design checker, insert/modify tables, use layout guides, apply colour schemes, apply a background, insert page numbers.
- Outlook - send/receive emails, attach files/images to emails, open/save attachments, search emails, modify email message settings and delivery options, use high/low priorities, create/edit contacts, create/edit groups, create an email signature, reply to a message, forward a message, use BCC & CC facilities, create entries in calendar, set recurrence, create/modify a task, printing email messages.
Using the Internet
- search the Internet efficiently, navigate a website, save a page in your favourites, print/save web pages, save pictures/text from a web page and print a web page/selected text.
- use web based email like hotmail, yahoo or google. Send a message, reply to or forward a message, download/view attachments, send attachments, create a contact, use the address book, organise messages and change password.
- do online shopping (food, clothes, etc) and use price comparison sites.
- advantages/disadvantages of online banking.
- be aware of security online, i.e. card fraud, viruses.
- what to be aware of when downloading programs.
Digital Imaging
- enhance a photo by removing red-eye, adjust brightness or apply effects.
- alter a digital photo by removing unwanted parts, cropping and/or enlarging, make photo collages or repair an old photo.
- photo taking tips, i.e. consider what is in the background.
Windows Operating System (OS)
- perform regular maintenance to ensure continuous peak computer performance.
- create an organised filing system by creating folders/subfolders and moving/ deleting files.
- set password protection, create/delete users, hide files.
Anti-Virus Software
- scan files, folders, drives or devices for viruses.
- update anti-virus software and set to automatically update.
- learn about viruses etc and how to prevent infection.
Instant Messaging
- download, install and set up free instant messaging software like Windows Live Messenger, Aim or Yahoo Messenger.
- learn how to talk to friends/ family all over the world.
- use a camera (Webcam) and/or microphone to communicate with friends/ family.
