ITQ 2009 - a new type of qualification

The new NVQ/SVQ for IT users (ITQ 2009) has been developed as part of a comprehensive project that involved a full review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for IT users. The NOS have been brought up-to-date in the light of the rapidly changing IT user environment, and in readiness for transition to new national qualifications frameworks - the new Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) in Scotland.

The new ITQ suite

The ITQ Suite comprises 9 separate qualifications: with Award, Certificate and Diplomas at each of Level 1, 2 and 3. the qualification titles all take the same form. For example:

All the Awarding Organisations will draw from the same QCF Unit bank to design their qualifications, giving the learner the best possible choice in working towards a fit-for-purpose qualification, tailored to their needs in every aspect:

ITQ units

The component units for ITQ 2009 are QCF shared units, that is, developed by e-skills UK in partnership with all the Awarding Organisations. Each unit is assigned a Level and a Credit value in the ITQ framework.

Flexibility of assessment method

As with previous versions of the ITQ, there is no single way to assess ITQ units. ITQ awarding organisations recognise a number of contributing units and qualifications which can be mapped to one or more ITQ units. A full list of these is available in this section.
